The Okanagan Innovative Forestry Society (OIFS) is a registered
non profit Society made up of forest companies and two First Nations Tribal Councils. This includes Federated Co-operatives Limited, Gorman Bros. Lumber Ltd., LP Canada Ltd., Okanagan Nations Alliance, Selkirk Timber Company, Shuswap Nation Tribal Council, Stella-Jones Canada Inc., Tolko Industries Ltd., Weyerhaeuser Company Ltd., and the Ministry of Forests & Range
BC Timber Sales Branch in the Okanagan Timber Supply Area to administer
Innovative Forestry Practices Agreements through one common cooperative
organization.
The OIFS acts as a legal Society for identifying and implementing
investment opportunities into the 1.6 million hectares of public forest
lands of the Okanagan Timbers Supply Area in British Columbia, Canada.
Investments into the forest lands will realize improved growth of the
forests which will lead to incremental forestry jobs through timber harvesting
and enhanced silviculture activities.

The investment programs and activities are identified
by the OIFS in a cooperative Forestry Plan 2007 which,
when approved by government, guides the on the ground innovative forest
practices in the Okanagan Timber Supply Area.
This web site has been designed to provide direct public
access to the Forestry Plan 2007 outlining the proposed
programs and activities being undertaken by the OIFS.
Following after 5 years of program investment, the Society has completed a Predictive Ecosystem Map of the forestlands Okanagan Shuswap Forest District, is well on its way to sponsor ressearch between forest practices and Mountain Caribou, Mule Deers Winter range and Pine Marten research.. |
